Joining Healthwatch to raise cancer awareness in Barking and Dagenham
Thanks to Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham, local residents were able to find out more about cancer signs and symptoms, screening programmes and cancer support services at a special health and wellbeing event this month.
Held at the Barking Learning Centre on Tuesday 7 November, the event featured a range of health information stands and activities, all designed to boost the health and wellbeing and quality of life for local residents.
North East London Cancer Alliance attended the event and handed out a range of the latest cancer information, including our new patient leaflet, with a particular focus on signs and symptoms and the importance of attending cancer screening programmes.
Diane Gypps, Patient Experience and Engagement Manager for North East London Cancer Alliance said “It’s really important for us to attend events such as these so that we can hear directly from the public about their cancer concerns and make sure they are aware of local services.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity to network with partners and local organisations so we can work together to better understand and support our local population.”
Councillor Donna Lumsden, Mayor of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, also visited our information stand to hear about the work we are doing to improve local cancer services and we had the opportunity to speak to local councillors and partners from local voluntary organisations, such as the St Luke’s Drug and Alcohol Service.
Agne Pilkauskiene, Engagement and Project Officer for Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham, said “We would like to express our sincere gratitude for North East London Cancer Alliance’s involvement in our Health and Wellbeing Day on 7 November. We thoroughly enjoyed having your organisation here!
“The success of the event has been greatly influenced by your attendance. We want to thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for being such a valuable partner and coming along on this special day. We eagerly await the chance to collaborate and work together in the future. By working together, we can keep our residents motivated and empowered.”
