North East London Cancer Alliance
Who are we?
Formed on 1 April 2020, we are the North East London Cancer Alliance, one of 21 cancer alliances across England.
Cancer Alliances were established as a result of recommendations made by the Independent Cancer Taskforce report, ‘Achieving world-class cancer outcomes: a strategy for England 2015-2020’
North East London Cancer Alliance helps to improve the diagnosis, treatment and care for local cancer patients. To do this, we work with patients, residents, carers, hospitals, GP practices, health and care professionals, local authorities and community and voluntary organisations across North East London.

Our Aim
North East London Cancer Alliance's aim is that every resident in North East London has equal access to better cancer services so that we can help to:
Prevent cancer
Helping people live healthier lifestyles.
Spot cancer sooner
Making it easier to treat.
Provide the right treatment at the right time
Saving more lives and helping people to live longer.
Support people and families affected by cancer
Improving quality of life.
Benefits of the cancer alliance
We work across north east London to deliver a range of benefits for each of our key stakeholder groups.
Patients
- Innovations in diagnostics to spot cancer sooner and reduce waiting times
- Improved treatment throughout the whole patient journey including prehab and health and wellbeing services
- Equal access to a wider range of support services for people living with cancer
Public
- Better awareness of screening services and the importance of attending to increase uptake
- Equal access of information about signs and symptoms and early diagnosis
- More advice on healthy living and preventing cancer and how to access support
Primary Care
- Support in achieving the PCN Des including working with PCN cancer facilitators
- Access to more cancer training and information, as well as useful resources to help with cancer diagnosis
- Improved patient information and materials that can be sent from a practice directly to a patient
Providers
- Help in improving performance and achieving the national cancer performance standards
- Support in raising awareness of all the great work our Trust cancer teams achieve
- Work in partnership with providers to deliver new innovations such as cytosponge and colon flag
Peers
- Sharing learning and best practice that can be applied in other areas of the country
- Joint working on initiatives to share resources, materials and budgets that can be used across multiple organisations
- A sounding board for advice and ideas to help solve problems and create innovative solutions
Partners
- Opportunities to work on innovative cancer campaigns, like Best For My Chest
- Access to funding and resources to deliver local community projects
- Sharing and promoting information, materials, insight and case studies
