The North East London Cancer Alliance is working on a number of initiatives to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, as well as the importance of attending breast screening appointments, during Breast Cancer Awareness month this October.

Quality of life means different things to different people, but it matters to everyone. More people are surviving cancer than ever before - but living with cancer, and the effects of its treatment, can have a negative impact on people’s physical, emotional and social wellbeing. 

Following successful training over the summer, North East London Cancer Alliance is working with Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust once again to bring non-clinical staff free online training sessions on cervical health.

We have now scanned the lungs of over 500 residents in Barking and Dagenham, where we launched our pilot in July this year as part of the national Targeted Lung Health Check Programme. This provides free lung checks for people aged between 55-74 who are current or former smokers.

The NHS is encouraging people with symptoms such as a long-standing persistent cough, to visit their GP for potentially lifesaving checks in its latest campaign to catch lung cancer earlier when it is easier to treat.

Newly diagnosed cancer patients aged 18 and older in the United Kingdom are now able to access safe, effective treatments to support their mental health thanks to a partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and digital therapeutics provider Big Health.

NHS London is running a lifesaving campaign this summer to encourage more people to do their free NHS bowel cancer screening test, which checks if you could have bowel cancer.

NHS England and Improvement have published the 2021 results of the Cancer Patient Experience Survey.

Residents who are aged between 55 and 74, who are current smokers or who have ever smoked, are being invited to take advantage of a new, free opportunity to have their lungs checked as part of a national NHS pilot called the Targeted Lung Health Check Programme.
