Rain or Shine: North East London Cancer Alliance at Loxford Park
The North East London Cancer Alliance team was out in full force this weekend at Loxford Park, taking part in a vibrant community event dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing across the borough.
Despite the rainy weather, spirits remained high, and the turnout was strong. Residents from across the area came together to enjoy a day packed with activity, information, and community connection.
From Zumba sessions and cultural dancing to first aid demonstrations and health education stalls, there was truly something for everyone, making the event both educational and energising.

Free Health Checks and Meaningful Conversations
One of the standout features of the day was the availability of free health checks on-site, which many residents took advantage of. It provided an accessible way for people to learn more about their health status and take the first steps toward preventative care.
Our team had the opportunity to speak with a wide range of community members , some who were curious to learn more about the services we offer, others who are currently using our cancer support services, and a number of individuals who had used our services in the past and spoke positively about their experiences.
Rita Majek, the Communications and Engagament project office at North East London Cancer Alliance says "It’s always a privilege to be out in the community, having real conversations that can make a difference. Events like this remind us that building trust and raising awareness starts with showing up, listening, and being present"
These personal stories and interactions highlighted just how impactful and valued our work is within the community.
Supporting, Listening, and Connecting
For us, the day was about raising awareness, building trust, answering real questions, and being present for the people we serve. Events like these remind us of the power of face-to-face engagement and the importance of meeting people where they are both physically and emotionally.
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, to the event organisers, and to the many local organisations who helped bring the day to life.
At NEL Cancer Alliance, we remain committed to making cancer awareness, prevention, and support more accessible- rain or shine.
