Celebration of International Women’s Day with Tower Hamlets Council

On Saturday 9 March 2024 from 11:00 to 18:00, North East London Cancer Alliance teamed up with a host of partners at a special event run by London Borough of Tower Hamlets in the Grocers Wing of Tower Hamlets Town Hall.

The event celebrated International Women’s Day and had a packed agenda full of entertainment, as well as lots of health and wellbeing support for local residents. North East London Cancer Alliance was there to help raise awareness of cancer signs and symptoms and screening programmes, as part of a coordinated effort to boost early diagnosis which helps to save lives.

Diane Gypps, Patient Experience and Engagement Manager for North East London Cancer Alliance said “It was an inspiring day which featured music and amazing female singers and dancers, performances and fitness sessions, including self-defence, as well as face painting, arts and craft, and a variety of tempting food stalls.

“Our information stand was situated next to Public Health Tower Hamlets, with London Ambulance nearby, and we spoke to over 30 people who came to the Cancer Alliance’s table asking about the national screening programmes, cancer indicators, and where to get more information.

“We shared a variety of leaflets with people in different languages. One lady took several “You Need To Know” womb cancer leaflets in Urdu for a coffee morning she is running. We also recruited two people to our Patient Partner group, which shows the benefits of coming to fantastic events like this!”
