NELCA in Havering: residents open up about cancer journeys
Residents were invited to Mardyke Community Hall for a Live Well Havering event that drew a large crowd and a notable presence of local councillors. We attended to raise awareness of the services available to people in the borough. Throughout the session, attendees shared personal experiences of cancer - either their own or those of loved ones.
During the event, several residents approached us for guidance on when to see a GP about specific symptoms. Our “Tell me about it” leaflet - which offers helpful questions and advice on preparing for GP appointments, proved particularly useful and popular, with many people praising the space it provides to record symptoms in advance.
There was also strong interest in the PCUK booklets, with many women taking copies home for their husbands. Events like these show how important it is for us to be present in the community and to continue raising awareness of the support available across the North East London boroughs.
