Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists Leadership Day
Barts Health hosted a cancer nursing leadership day for senior Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists across the three Trusts in North East London – Barts Health, BHRUT and Homerton Healthcare. The leadership day, ran by People People, focused on leadership qualities, the leadership mindset, communication skills, wellbeing and resilience.
Alison Hill, Director of Cancer and Palliative Care Nursing at Barts Health, opened the day by summarising why opportunities like this are so important. She said: “Today is a chance to develop our leadership skills and reflect on what good leadership looks like. And good leadership is particularly important during challenging and uncertain times, and to help us face the inevitable changes ahead."
Lizzie Rowland, Lead Cancer Nurse at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals, added: “Today is about supporting our lead nurses to develop their leadership skills and the vital role they play in supporting their teams and the patients they care for."
Alison, Lizzie and Mary Flatley, Lead Cancer Nurse at Homerton Healthcare, organised the day to coincide with National Cancer CNS Day to support and recognise the importance of Cancer CNS leadership in leading our CNS teams to provide excellent patient care in North East London.
Samantha Strumeier, Lead Uro- Oncology CNS and Advanced Practice Nurse for Barts Health, summed up the day: “The leadership away day was a gentle reminder of the principles we already know, practice daily, and sometimes don’t give ourselves enough credit for. It was also an excellent opportunity to sharpen the art of having concise, efficient, and impactful conversations.”
