More people are getting their free lung health check in north east London

We have been working in partnership with local authorities, GPs, community and voluntary groups and Public Health on a borough-by-borough basis to deliver the Targeted Lung Health Check Programme – free lung checks for people aged 55-74 who have ever smoked.

Our approach has led to the one of the highest uptake rates in the country - we delivered over 1,000 scans in Tower Hamlets, within just two months of launching there.

It is currently available in Barking & Dagenham, Tower Hamlets and Newham. As of 31 January 2023, we have invited 34,783 patients, completed 18,323 lung health checks and undertaken 7,493 scans!

We are ultimately expanding the programme to all boroughs in north east London.

What is a lung health check?

Lung checks are by invite only. We’ll send you a letter when it is your turn, inviting you to an initial telephone appointment with the lung health check team. It's really important you have this.

Your letter will have the NHS logo on it and will be from the Targeted Lung Health Check team, sent on behalf of your GP.

If you are in Barking & Dagenham, Tower Hamlets or Newham, 1,000s of your neighbours have been taking advantage of this free service. Have you missed yours? Don’t worry, it’s not too late. Simply contact the team via email at nel.lunghealthcheck@nhs.net or phone us on 020 3839 8911.
