Community Health and Wellbeing Events – Expression of Interest

Background

A young girl is holding a rugby ball and a man is standing in the background coaching her.

Last year, the North East London Cancer Alliance (NELCA) delivered a series of community events that boosted confidence in physical activity, strengthened community engagement, and improved awareness of local health and support services. The events enabled informal conversations with healthcare professionals, supporting early identification of health concerns and encouraging uptake of screening and prevention services. At the same time, social care and community organisations provided on-the-spot advice and signposting, helping residents access relevant support. Taster sessions also introduced a range of local physical activity providers, encouraging greater participation. Overall, the events showed clear early benefits for both residents and the wider health system.

Purpose of this EOI

Building on previous successes, this Expression of Interest (EOI) aims to commission community organisations and partners to deliver a new series of Community Health and Wellbeing Events across North East London. The programme will expand access to physical activity and wellbeing support, particularly for underserved groups, while increasing confidence, awareness of cancer-related information, and early engagement with healthcare services through informal interactions.

At a system level, the initiative will strengthen collaboration between NHS organisations, local authorities, Primary Care Networks, VCSE partners and Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, supporting more joined-up, prevention-focused delivery. Providers will also collect consistent data on participation and outcomes to better measure impact.

The programme places a strong emphasis on culturally tailored, community-led approaches to reduce barriers, improve inclusivity and strengthen community connections. This EOI invites providers who can scale and localise these outcomes, with all applicants required to meet essential criteria to be considered for funding.

Events will run between 1st May 2026 - 31st December 2026 with planning beginning immediately following EOI selection.
